A CONVERSATION with Florian Gindhart

The Cycle Sierra Nevada Scholarship Program was developed as a way to sponsor young cyclists that may not have opportunity or financial capacity to avail of a cycling training camp. In this section we take 5 minutes for a quick chat with one of the applicants selected for the 2016 program.

Florian Gindhart - GERMANY

Who are you?

I'm Florian an 18 year old cyclist from Bavaria, Germany.

What team do you ride for?

The last two years I have rode for Team Auto Eder Bayern and in my first year in U23 I will ride for P&S Thüringen.

Why did you start cycling?

I started cycling because my dad did a bit of cycling with me when I was young and I liked it. I begun with mountain-biking and switched to road cycling when I was 12 because I was more successful there.

Have you any other sporting backgrounds?

I played football until I was 13 and did a lot of ski races when I was younger.

What types of cycling do you do and what do you enjoy about each?

I only do racing on the road and I enjoy to see where my physical limit is and going over it and of course winning is the best feeling you can ever have.

How many bikes do you own?

5!

Favourite piece of cycling equipment/kit?:

Probably my SRM power-meter because it is really interesting to see how you get better and better with the time.

Your greatest achievements on a bicycle?

Getting 3rd in German Championship in team time-trail and placing 10th in the German Mountain Championships.

Your cycling heroes?

Fabian Cancellara and Jens Voigt.

Your favourite training route/coffee stop?

I think riding to the Walchensee is one of my favourites but nothing beats riding in south Tyrol. Favourite coffee stop is the Paradiso in Oberammergau (a small town in Bavaria, Germany)

What music do you like?

Cla$$ic from Bushido and Shindy (a pair of German rappers, so I guess it´s Bushido und Shindy!)

Tell us something we don’t know about you?

I really love to hike and enjoy being in the nature for by myself.

Hopes and plans for the future?

For sure, I hope to get a pro contract.
