Road Cycling Holiday Check-list

Plan your cycling holiday in Spain with the aid of our Road Cycling Holiday Check-list.  This will help ensure you have everything you need to tackle the mountains and climbs of southern Spain. You can also printit out and use it for some ultra-organised packing.

Before you go:

  • Have you reserved your hire bike?
  • Bike service (if you're bringing your own)
  • Pre-book bike space on flight

Essential personal items and electronics:

  • Passport
  • European Health Insurance Card (EHIC Card)
  • Personal Insurance (mandatory)
  • Credit Card / Cash
  • Flight details / boarding card
  • Mobile phone + charger
  • Plug socket adaptors

Personal items:

  • Wash kit
  • Personal medication
  • Painkillers
  • Antihistamines
  • Sun block
  • Insect repellent
  • First Aid Kit
  • Energy bars/products
  • Hydration tablets
  • Chamois cream

Casual Clothing:

  • Beany or hat
  • Jumper/warm jacket (ESP January, February & March)
  • Swim kit
  • Evening shoes/flip flops

Ride kit:

  • Helmet (legal requirement for cycling in Spain)
  • Cycling glasses
  • Cycling cap or thin warm hat
  • Cycling bib shorts (x2 or more)
  • Short sleeved jersey
  • Waterproof Jacket
  • Gillet - Light wind vest
  • Windproof Jacket or Race Cape (for the long descents)
  • Short sleeved base layer (x2 or more)
  • Socks (of the cycling variety and not tennis socks)
  • Mitts
  • Full finger gloves (ESP January, February & March)
  • Buff (ESP January, February & March)
  • Shoes & spare cleats
  • Arm warmers (ESP January, February & March)
  • Leg warmers (ESP January, February & March)

In your saddle bag or on your bike:

  • 750ml water bottle (x2)
  • Multi tool
  • Pump
  • Tyre levers
  • Powerlinks for chain
  • Small LED Lights (mandatory for passing through tunnels)
  • Pedals and perhaps your own saddle (if renting a bike)
  • Bike computer

Spares:

  • Inner tubes (3+)
  • Spare mech hanger/rear dropout
